Back when super niggger was the POTUS it seemed like every wannabe "gun smith" was slap dashing AR's together with after market no name parts and then taking them to gun shows and trying to sell them to dumbass gun buyer's for big bucks.

I only own two AR's. A Colt HBAR Match Target and a Bushmaster M4 carbine. There is no way I will buy some POS parts gun at any price.

And so it goes.

You can build a really nice gun from disparate parts. It will be as good as the quality (cost) of the parts assembled.

An acquaintance just build a 6.5 Creedmore on a DPMS lower. Everything first class, first group shot was sub MOA.

Price tag = $2,800

Yes you can, yes you should. To the surprise of many people out there, the big brand names use the same barrel manufacturer (not all) and one of 5 upper receiver manufacturers that are military contractors.

The main thing is to make sure your bolt head is MPI tested. It is the heart of the gun. It can be as cheap as you can find it, as long as it is tested. I think Nitride finish bolts wear better, IMHO.

Anderson lowers are just as good as my Bushmaster lower. Please let me spend the mistake money for you and pass on plastic or hybrid receivers.

Play around with buffer weights. and dial in your performance.

When doing a self build you are your own procurement, production and QC person all rolled into one.
Do your due diligence on parts or parts assembly quality.
I won't name names but there are some makers I wouldn't touch with a 10ft cleaning rod.
Also don't go cheap on tools. Like try to use non AR specific ones for the build.
In 2020 there's no excuse for it good decent tools are out there.
Back to quality.. modern manufacturing processes unless they hire complete morons can crank out great intolerance products.
My main advice with AR parts are stick with USA made stuff.
My last build had major components from 7 different makers and it's snug fitting and works great.
